George Walter Foster passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, surrounded by family and friends.
Loving husband of 59 years of the late Barbara (nee Woodcock); beloved son of the late Alice (nee Richt) Foster and the late George Walter Foster; devoted father of Donna L. Kleinschmidt and George W. Foster, Jr; devoted father-in-law of John F. Kleinschmidt and Laura L. Foster; cherished grandfather John D. Kleinschmidt, Gregory Foster Kleinschmidt, and Amanda DelCourt; dear grandfather-in-law of Jill Kleinschmidt, Christine Kleinschmidt, and Mark DelCourt; treasured great-grandfather of Kaitlyn, Sam, Maris, Eden, Tanner, and Nash; brother-in-law of Vernon G. Woodcock; and dear uncle and friend to many. George was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
George proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
George proudly retired from Automatic Canteen after more than 42 years as a buyer.
Through the years in his free time, he enjoyed spending time at the lake, wintering in Gulf Shores, playing golf, and was a wicked card player. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan and never missed watching a game. He will be remembered for his fiercely independent spirit, his hardworking nature, and his generous heart.
George had a sweet tooth a mile long and could usually be found with a handful of cookies, his favorite candy, a dish of ice cream, or a chocolate milk shake from Steak ‘n Shake.
A Special thank you to the staffs of St. Joseph Hospital and Villages of St. Peters for the care, kindness and compassion to George and his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in $10 increments can be donated to:

My deepest sympathy for your loss. What seems to be a long life is never long enough where our loved ones are concerned. Our Heavenly Father Jehovah feels the same way. That is why He has promised to swallow up death forever and soon end all our suffering. (Rev. 21:3-5; Isa.25:8) May His promises be a soothing balm for your grieving hearts.
Condolences from the entire Germer Clan. George was a wonderful person. He help my Dad, Bill, and I wire my first home, in Edwardsville IL, back in 1990. He and Barb were some of my Mom and Dad best friend and I always referred to the four of them as “the Wild Bunch”. George has finally rejoined the card table and I can see him drinking his Manhattan and the table with Barb, Joan and Bill. I always laughed when Mom and Dad showed the video of them dancing around their cabin, back in 1988, on their Canadian fishing trip to Monatok Lodge. I was happy to see George attend my Mom’s recent visitation though I know it was difficult for him.
So sorry I can’t make it to either the visitation or service-we are babysitting grandchildren all this week. But I will be there in spirit. He lived a very long life. I’m sure you have many fond memories.
My late husband Rich and I played Sequence with Joan, George and friends. He was always a pleasure to be with and a real gentleman. My sympathy and prayers to his family.
Condolences,
Marge Kage
