George S. Robbins

August 6, 1936 — December 6, 2020

George S. Robbins, 84, of St. Charles, MO left this world suddenly on December 6, 2020.

George was a loving husband, amazing father, energetic grandfather, caring brother and an exceptional friend. He was born on August 6, 1936 in Mountainside, NJ to Clarence Sanford and Thelma Evelyn (Shuker) Robbins. George was a bright, intuitive student and he chose to follow his brother into the US Navy. He served as an airplane mechanic on the Navy carrier USS Bon Homme Richard near the end of the Korean War.

George would impress everyone who knew him with his abilities to work with numbers. Following his Navy service, he became a machinist where he could program a lathe without a calculator - quite a feat at the time. George went into business with his stepfather, Rene Boilatt, in New Jersey; eventually taking over the machinist business himself.

In 1974, George sold his machinist company, and moved his family to Venice, Florida to pursue other business interests. Ultimately, he relocated to St. Charles, MO in 1978 and used his people skills to become a highly respected restaurateur and business manager, well-loved by many.

George retired in 1998. His interests outside of work included spending time with family and friends, golfing, ocean fishing and of course his rescue dogs. In retirement, George surprised us all with his dedication to backyard birding, including obtaining a patent for a squirrel-proof bird feeder.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Deborah Lynn Robbins; his children Donald Lance Robbins of St. Charles, MO; Robert George (married to Rebecca) Robbins of West Palm Beach, FL; Laurali Sue Robbins (Rideout) of Atchison, KS; Kate Lynn Robbins Osman (married to Erik) of Columbia, MO and grandchildren Sean Russel Robbins, Chelsea Elizabeth Robbins, and Jacob George Osman. George is also survived by his brother Richard Robert Robbins of Ellenton, FL and his sister-in-law Laura Matushek of Reno, NV.

Interment will be at the family plot in Westfield, New Jersey at a later date when family and friends can gather safely to celebrate the life of one who touched so many lives. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial donations in George Robbins honor to the Five Acres Animal Shelter, 1099 Pralle Lane, St. Charles, MO 63303, telephone: 636-949-9918.
