Florence L. Wetter

December 16, 1923 — August 15, 2019

Florence “Flossie” Wetter of St. Charles, Mo, died on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at the age of 95. Loving wife for 40 years of Norbert ("Buzz") Wetter who predeceased her
in 1988. Devoted mother of Steve (Pat) Wetter, Jean (Jerry) Bornhop, Mark Wetter, Barbara (Terry) Gates, and Lesa (Nick) Smith. Grandmother of Dr. David (Dr. Uma) Wetter and Lesley (Dan) Clark. Great-grandmother of Nisha, Simon, and Nadia Wetter; Carter and Jackson Clark. Dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend of many.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents , Leo and Marie (Glosier) Messner, her sister, Mildred Messner, and brothers Henry, Robert ("Skeeter"), and Thomas Messner.
Florence was a life-long member of St. Peters Catholic Church in St. Charles where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. In her younger years she was active as a member of the Ladies Sodality and helped with many card parties, dinners, and picnic activities. Florence attended St. Peter elementary school and later graduated from St. Peter High School in 1941.

After high school graduation Florence worked as a secretary for local attorney, Joe Wentker. During World War II she worked in the Employees Service Bureau at Curtiss-Wright where she did rationing. After the war, Flo worked briefly at A.C.F., and then at the Banner-News until she married in 1947.

During their first year of marriage, Buzz and Flo resided in a 4th-floor apartment at the Ira Paul Apartments while building their first house on Kingshighway. Once completed they resided there for 33 years while raising their family of five children. Flo devoted herself to managing the household and raising her family. She worked tirelessly to keep up with the cooking, cleaning, and laundry for her growing family without the aid of modern appliances. As the family increased in size, Flo spent more and more time attending children's sports and school activities and
driving children to events. Family became Flo's full-time job.

Although both Buzz and Flo worked hard they also played hard. The Wetter household was often the site for picnics, BBQs, and parties. Florence was a great hostess and loved having parties (often with elaborate themes). She always made sure there was plenty to eat and drink. Occasionally the party continued into the next day and more than once the guests got to see the sunrise as they went out the door.

Buzz and Flo were charter members of Bogey Hills Country Club where they enjoyed socializing and playing golf at least once a week. Flo continued golfing into her mid-80s and was part of one of the final foursomes to play at St. Charles Golf Course on the day it closed. After she could no longer golf, Flo played cards with the ladies at Bogey weekly for several years.

In her early 20s, Flo ventured to Cuba with her friend, Ruth Schmidt, and she never stopped traveling after that. During her lifetime she traveled in all 50 states, Mexico, Canada, and numerous other countries. Although she resided in St. Charles her entire life, she truly enjoyed seeing the rest of the world.Florence lived life to the fullest. She was a loving wife, a wonderful mother, and a loyal friend to many. She will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Peter Catholic Church or to Duchesne High School.
