Donald A. Holtgrieve

August 1, 1928 — September 1, 2019

Donald A. Holtgrieve passed away at the age of 91 during the late afternoon of Sunday, September 1, 2019 after a brief battle with dementia. Don was born on August 1, 1928 in St. Clair, Missouri; he often said he got his kicks on Route 66.

Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria (Kimbro); his two children, Andrew (Becky) Holtgrieve and their two boys, Austin and Drew, and his daughter Dina (Michael) Wehde and their two boys, Troy and Lucas. How Don loved his family and was so proud of those grandsons. When his health allowed, you might have found him sitting in some school gym or in the stands at some ballfield. He is also survived by two granddogs, Tiger and Ginger who loved to visit G-Pa. Don was preceded in death by his siblings, June Baught, Shirley Tucker, Wilbert Holtgrieve, and Gene Koch.

Don spent his working years in the insurance field, relocating whenever necessary. He was a 60+ year member of American Legion Post 312, being a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, loved to play golf and bowl with his many friends. Most of all, he loved music and was a drummer, playing with various dance bands for many dances from about the time he was 13 years old to far into his 80’s. When he was stationed in Germany during his Army days, he played in U.S. Army bands. He played in the St. Charles Municipal Band for about 49 years, retiring not too long ago.

We his family love him dearly.

Contributions may be made of the donor’s choice or to Immanuel Lutheran Church or St. Charles Municipal Band.
