Carl E. Schaffrin

July 29, 1930 — February 3, 2015

Carl Edward Schaffrin was born on July 29, 1930 at 318 South Main Street, Saint Charles, Missouri and was raised with his seven brothers and sisters in St. Charles, where they grew up together. His family nicknamed him "Bootsie" which remained his entire life. Carl maintained an excellent work ethic from a very young age, beginning in his early years as a newspaper delivery boy, then in a jewelry store repairing watches and clocks and waiting on customers. He graduated to working at the International Shoe Company as a machine operator, then joined the military at the age of 17, serving four years in the United States Air Force. He served on the B-36 maintenance team holding the rank of Staff Sargent upon his discharge. He married Frances Martin in 1951, and they started their family the following year with the birth of their first daughter, Rebecca. In July 1952 he began his 35 year career with McDonnell Aircraft, and moved up the ladder to become the General Foreman of hangar operations, flight line electronics systems on the F-4, F-15, and the early days of the F/A-18 Fighter Aircraft. He excelled in electronics. He loved the challenge of fixing things for his family and friends, and had a determination to "never give up." He took on a part-time job repairing televisions in the basement of their family home. Between 1953-1958 they had six more daughters: Cynthia, Shelley, Susan, Kim, Diana, Gina; then in the years to follow they added four sons: Carl, Christopher, Paul and Patrick. He retired from McDonnell-Douglas after 35 dedicated years with the company. Carl took great pride in working in his new passion to help people find and sell homes through his real estate brokerage, Schaffrin Realty. He met Linda Schneider in 1987 and began a new chapter of his life when they married in 1988. In the next few years his family was completed with daughter, Elizabeth, and son, Joshua. They loved traveling the world together and took trips that included a Grand Tour of Europe, Brazil, Spain, and Hawaii, to name a few. He loved his family and took great pride in raising his 13 children. Over the years his grandchildren always enjoyed receiving a birthday card (he always remembered) that included "expired" coupons; prankster that he was. He was very frugal and a saver, yet he was very generous, especially with his time. How could we forget how much he loved babies that always produced a smile while on his lap. His quiver was full with the multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that followed his life....a full one until the end.
Carl Edward Schaffrin passed on to his eternal 'Home' with Jesus on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the age of 84.
