Boyd Morton Nichols, 72, of Saint Charles, MO passed away suddenly Thursday, July 16, 2020, at home. He was born in Roanoke, VA on November 28, 1947, to Boyd and Janie Nichols, and studied electrical engineering at Virginia Tech. Boyd married Beverly Nichols (nee Pauli), on October 18, 1975.
Boyd worked as an Electrical Engineer at John Deere in Dubuque, IA for 35 years. Boyd made design contributions to many different industrial machines; he took pride in pointing these out to his family wherever they encountered them. He loved making audio recordings, and spent many hours recording and editing symphony performances, and professional and student recitals. After retiring, Boyd and Bev moved to St. Charles in 2015. During the next few years, they were able to travel extensively, including trips to Russia, Israel, and Vietnam. Boyd was a hardworking member of his homeowner’s association, and was active in his church, Bonhomme Presbyterian, especially in choir and his men’s Bible study. Boyd loved to sing in choirs, and sang in church and community choirs from fourth grade on. He loved renovating his house and helping those around him. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and loved his family well.
Boyd is survived by his wife, Bev, of St. Charles; his four children, Kathryn Nichols, Gregory (Melanie) Nichols, Sharon (Scott) Patten, and Rebecca (Mark) Miller; and his ten young grandchildren: Edward, Theodore, and Peter Nichols; Caspian, Dane, Kenna, and Arthur Patten; Zachary, Annabelle, and Benjamin Miller.
