Tony Dillen Russom
August 11, 1931 — January 19, 2021
Tony Dillen Russom, of Chesterfield, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the age of 89. Loving husband of the late Shirley Ann Russom; beloved son of the late Carl and Flora Russom; devoted father of Jeff (Lisa) Russom and Phil (Amy) Russom; dear brother of Carole (Eddie) Fears; cherished grandfather of Tyler (Jessye) Russom, Chad (Fiancé Amy) Russom and Jenna Russom.
Preceded in death by his siblings, Amos Russom, Joy Wooldridge and Norma Jean Cunningham.
Living in a rural farming town, Tony came from humble beginnings before deciding to move to St. Louis in his early twenties. Throughout high school, Tony enjoyed playing basketball for his school’s team and continued to play while enrolled in college. He went on to work for thirty-eight years as a labor accountant at McDonnell Douglas and enjoyed great success with his career while there. Tony also served as a music minister at his church for over thirty years, singing in various gospel quartets all his life and indeed it was while singing in a quartet that he met his wife, the love of his life.
Having a family was Tony’s dearest joy. He was immensely proud of his boys for the way they dedicated themselves to their college education. His family knew him to be a fantastic cook who knew his way around the kitchen and who loved preparing great meals for the family to enjoy. Tony’s trademark dessert was the “Tony Special” where out of three pies and one cake, he’d treat himself to a slice of each. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
