Sue C. Smith

Trindasue Smith, aka “Sue C. Smith”, age 67, of St. Peters, Missouri, formerly of Grand Island Nebraska died on March 20, 2016 in St. Peters.

Mrs. Smith was born September 29, 1948 in Cambridge, Nebraska to Wayne V. and Geraldine (Jones) Krauss. She grew up and attended Cambridge Elementary School until the family moved to Kearney, Nebraska in 1959 and then to Grand Island in 1960. She attended Walnut Jr. High School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1966. She was formerly married to Phillip Sexton of Cambridge, Nebraska and Ronald W. Christensen from Grand Island, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to James L. Smith, Jr. on July 16, 1983 in Grand Island, Nebraska. They remained there until 1992 when the family moved to St. Peters, Missouri where she lived until her death.

Sue was a devoted and compassionate wife and mother. A devoted advocate for her foster child, Ginny Schmidt for years and Bonus Mother to her husband’s children. She enjoyed keeping a home and worked as a waitress for many years, then at Rainbow Bakery, Hall County Jail as a food server for two years and finally as a welder for Smith Scale Service building above ground truck sales. Activities she enjoyed were thrift shopping, swimming, music, dancing, and sewing. Her love was genealogy and spending time with family and friends.

Beloved daughter of the late Wayne V. and Geraldine T. Krauss. Survivors include her husband, James L. Smith, Jr. Foster daughter, Ginny Schmidt of St. Peters, MO. A daughter and son-in-law, Kami and Matt Nichols of Ocala, FL. Daughter, Sunshine and Jesse Solaas of Broken Bow, NE. Son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Amanda Smith of Grand Island, Nebraska, 24 grandchildren, Jazmine, Matthew, Andrew, Abigail, Lucas, Wyatt, Damien, Isabella, Amelia, and Isaac Nichols, Austin, Emma, and Ethan Smith and Aubry, Clair, Allison, Elizabeth Hammond, Kyle, Nick, Charlee, T’Lysa, and Anthony Solaas, and the late Ian Nichols and Alex Hammond. Other survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Pamela J. and Rex Vitale of Beatrice, NE. Cousins, sisters-in-law, Barbie Christensen, Christi Christensen, Vicky Niebur, Roxanna Funk and Angie Smith, longtime friends Jerry Casson of St. Libory, NE. Rhonda Powers of St. Charles, MO and Ken and Trish Ross of Grand Island, NE. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Steve Smith, and parents-in-law James L. and Modest Smith, Sr.
