Sharon Ann (nee: Tucker) Malpiedi, of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the age of 82. She was born June 16, 1934 to Alison and Raymond L. Tucker, Jr. in Pittsfield, Mass. Sharon was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Evo “Mal” Malpiedi. She was the devoted mother of Jeanne (Todd) Hampson, John (Judy) Malpiedi, Jim (Carlotta) Malpiedi, Joanne (Greg) Stake, Judy (Dave) Cowell, and Jennifer (Travis) Dyer; cherished Nonna of Maria, Megan and Emily Hampson, Nicholas, Christopher and Juliana Malpiedi, Olivia and Conner Malpiedi, Chandler and Cameron Stake, Alison, Ben, Madeline, and Ethan Cowell, and Jacob and Caleb Dyer; dear sister of Janice Tucker of (Valparaiso, Ind.) Gordon (Lorraine) Tucker of Schenectady, N.Y., Kevin (Linda) Tucker of Kingston, N.Y. and the late Mark Tucker, beloved aunt, sister-in-law and cousin.
Sharon graduated from St. Joseph High School in Pittsfield, and earned her R.N. from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Bridgeport, Conn. She eventually moved to St. Louis to work for Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. She met the love of her life, Evo Malpiedi, at a nurses’ picnic in Forest Park and they married October 17, 1959.
After 15 years of being a stay-at-home mom, Sharon returned to her nursing career as a pediatric nurse at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles. During the 1980s, she played a big part in the Community Safety Belt and Car Seat Program at St. Joseph. Sharon was the director of the center’s health education program for school-age children, and visited area schools dressed as “Buckle Bear” to teach youngsters the importance of seatbelt safety. As a member of the St. Joseph Health Center Auxiliary, Sharon helped coordinate the Missouri Hospital Association’s statewide “Smart Start” infant immunization magnet program in St. Charles County during the late 1990s, for which she received the Auxiliary’s Angel Award.
Sharon was a long-time parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, where she was actively involved in the Ladies Sodality, Health Ministry, and served as a Eucharistic minister.
She was very passionate about St. Louis sports. Sharon loved following the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals on radio and television. For years, Sharon and Evo held season tickets to the St. Louis Football Cardinals, and she mourned when the team moved to Arizona. In time, she became a St. Louis Rams fan, and would have been extremely unhappy with the defection of the team back to L.A.
Sharon was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SSM Hospice, SSM St. Joseph Hospital, or Memory Care Home Solutions.
