Roger Carlson Benscoter entered this world on April 29th, 1936 in a small home in Evart, Michigan. Roger grew up on a hard working dairy farm with his father, mother who died when he was 13, stepmother, brother, and two sisters. He shared stories often of his early life, made tougher because of the lingering depression of the Second World War. Roger joined the United States Navy reserves before he graduated high school; he was an electrician’s mate for eight years. As he grew up he became a pilot, a scuba diver, ice fisherman, bee-keeper, and spelunker. After graduating high school, Roger was hired as a machinist at the Fred Warrick Company – an experience he credits with changing his life and giving him his drive to create, design, and build anything and everything he dreamed of every day.
Four years after meeting on a blind date, Roger married Janice Green on August 26, 1961 in Birmingham, Michigan. After the birth of their first son, the family picked up and moved to St. Peters, Missouri in 1964 where he chose to raise his family. Roger and Janice raised their children and provided the love and support to put each of them through college. He spent thirty years as an engineer at McDonnell Douglas. He also owned a family machine shop that he ran out of his basement.
Roger was an eternal supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. His adult leadership helped hundreds of boys on long backpack trips, camp weekends, and in his own woodshop. Roger was an avid outdoorsman, and spent countless hours with his family on his land in Troy, Missouri, where he hunted, and enjoyed time by the camp fire.
Roger and Janice loved the Lord and have been members of Morning Star & The Way Church for years. They loved to tell colorful stories about the members of their church small group, who have become family now in all of our eyes.
Roger is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice Green Benscoter, son Bradley Benscoter, and wife Karen, son Jeff Benscoter, and wife Sheri, and daughter Vicki Benscoter Johnson. He has five grandchildren, Loren Morrison, and husband Shane, Barrie Benscoter, Kamryn Benscoter, Luke Benscoter, and Olivia and Alexander Johnson. He has three great-grandchildren, Bradley, Kyle, and Kelsey Morrison, and one older sister, Betty Anne Scofield.
Memorials may be made to The Way Church.
