Robert Earl Cantrell Sr.

February 25, 1929 — October 24, 2020

Robert Earl Cantrell Sr. of O’Fallon, Missouri, passed away at the age of 91 on Saturday, October 24, 2020.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Violet Cantrell; his parents, Tom and Osa Cantrell; and his sister, Shirley (Rev) Schwartzkoph.

Robert was a devoted father and is survived by his children, Robert Cantrell Jr., Larry (Kim) Cantrell, Martha Hickman, and Marcia Cantrell; his grandchildren, Matt (Monique) Cantrell, Holly (Brian) Cobb, Ariel Cantrell, David (Amy) Nesbit, Ashley (Richard Hughey) Nesbit, Elicia (Bradley) Wilson, Kailee Koontz, and Amanda Hickman; his great-grandchildren, Wednesday Nesbit, Ashyr Nesbit, Kitelyn Hughey, Brealin Hughey, Mezsia Cantrell, Sophia Cobb, Graisyn Cobb, Kolten Scrivner, and Troy Koontz; and his sister, Lorene (Carl) Wirth.

Robert had a love of music and met the love of his life, Violet, through their mutual bond on a radio show.  He was a hardworking man and retired after more than 51 years in printing with Drug Package Co.

Robert’s true passion was boating and fishing at his place at the Lake of the Ozarks.  Whether he was with family or friends, he was right at home on the water, his real happy place.  Family was always the number one priority for Robert, and he always looked forward to their summer vacations.  Whether it was excursions to Six Flags, so he could ride the rollercoasters and catch a country music concert, or road trips across the country, he made sure they had a great time.  When his grandkids came along, they became the joy of his life, and he had cherished playing cowboys with them.

Robert was also proud of his yard, and he put much effort into maintaining the fine appearance of his yard, landscaping, flowers, and koi pond.  He was a great fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and followed their games on the radio. The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune were Robert’s favorite TV shows, and everyone knew not to disturb him while these were playing.  He also had a notorious sweet tooth and loved having his cookies after every meal.  Robert was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
