Patrick E. “Red” Hollis of Saint Peters, Missouri, passed away at the age of 54 on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. Patrick was a loving and faithful husband of 30 years to Michelle Hollis; an affectionate father to Abigail M. A. Hollis and Blake Hollis; a cherished son of Evelyn and the late Excell Hollis; a dearest brother to Janice (Charles Bolden) Hollis and Jarvis (Wanda) Hollis. Patrick is also survived by his mother-in-love, Malisha Word (Nathaniel Word transitioned 2019); Michelle’s siblings’ Nigel Word, Linda Word, Sheila (Michael) Scott. and numerous nieces and nephews, who all loved him dearly. He was also a dear uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Patrick proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Desert Shield-Desert Storm Conflict. He received his bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO. He went on to complete two masters degrees at Webster University in St. Louis, MO. He was a dedicated employee of the EEOC as a federal investigator.
Patrick loved the Lord with all his heart. He was very active in his church and volunteered as a greeter and usher. He was also involved in the men’s group. He was known to many as the Gentle Giant. He also loved to joke, laugh, and have fun with everyone, and he had a “unique” sense of humor.
Patrick had many pastimes, of which reading was his favorite, especially crime and fiction novels. Walter Mosley books lined his shelves and he met him several times. He also valued history and architecture, researching military history, especially about Ulysses S. Grant, and African American History. He enjoyed NASCAR and European racing. He liked sports and he played football in high school and college.
Patrick recently got involved in gardening vegetables and was very enthusiastic, and he looked forward to watching Danny on Deep South Homestead. He was also very active in the Boy Scout Association, and encouraged his son Blake in becoming an Eagle Scout.
Patrick was a friend to everyone he met and cherished all the friendships he made throughout his life. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
