Nancy J. Madsen, (nee: Hippe) of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late Jens Madsen; cherished daughter of the late Oscar and Isabelle Hippe; devoted mother of Jeri Madsen, Erik (Loreen) Madsen and Cris Heffernan; loving Nana of Courtney (Patrick) Penning and Jenna Madsen; treasured aunt of Mark and Maureen Doherty.
Nancy grew up in St. Louis and graduated Beaumount High School. She met the love of her life Jens at a DeMolay Dance. They dated for years before their marriage on August 12, 1944. In October of 1944 Jens was called back from leave to go to sea with the Navy during World War II. This time allowed their love to be recorded through letters, 113 survived, which Nancy treasured her whole life. Jens & Nancy raised their 3 children in St. Louis & Minneapolis before settling in St. Peters, Missouri. Their pastimes included traveling, cooking and entertaining at their home; Nancy never met a stranger. Jens passed away in 1999 after 55 loving years of marriage.
Nancy was a devout Christian and volunteered for many years at The Freedom School. She was the life of the party, full of quick wit, always ready to dance or to cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals. She loved to play Bridge and was the Director of a Duplicate Bridge Club. Exercise was important to Nancy, she enjoyed swimming and Thai chi and was a member of Silver Sneakers at the YMCA. The most important thing to Nancy was her family, she will be missed by all who knew her.
