Michael Lee Hanlen, Born July 16th, 1946, Died February 12th, 2018.Survived by his children, Karri Tugwell of Denham Springs, LA and fiancé Douglas Shoop, Kelli Grimes and husband David of Ballwin Mo, Mark Hanlen and wife Abby of Warrenton, VA, Bryan Hanlen of Fayetteville, AR. Also, eight grandchildren, Jacob & Cami Tugwell, Michael, Kevin, Nicholas and Samantha Grimes, CA, Aurelie Hanlen, Johnny Bates of West Hollywood CA. Brother William B. Selling and wife Darlene of Lodi California. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.Preceded in death by his mother Alyce Davidson Hanlen, his father Robert Edwin Hanlen, sister Carol Dustin, Aunt Virginia Davidson Chase. Aunt and Uncle Harry and Edith Sparrow.Mike served in the U.S. Army after high school where he served time stationed overseas in Korea. He graduated the St. Louis Police Academy in 1970 going on to serve with the St. Louis Police department in the 6th District for ten years starting as a patrolman and in the detective bureau. He also worked for O’Fallon Police Department as a Sergeant and later as Lieutenant. He worked various positions with St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department Cyber Unit as well as the Coroner’s office and the MEG Unit. He was well known in the Law Enforcement community and respected as a mentor for years. He was a member of the FOP, The Blue Knights and the OPOA. He retired from OPD in the summer of 2008.
