Marion M. “Andy” Anderson

February 10, 1918 — December 9, 2018

On December 9, 2018 Marion M. “Andy” Anderson moved on to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Andy, 100, was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on February 10, 1918. He is survived by his wife and best friend Shirley A. Anderson; sons, Gregory (Jeanine) in Siesta Key / Sarasota, FL, Dwayne (Jeannine) in St. Charles, MO, and daughter, Donna Blazinski (Craig) in Ashland, Oregon; four grandsons, Dustin, Brennan, Bradley, and Brett, two granddaughters, Ashley and Rachel; two great-grandsons, Maximo and Lucas; niece Judy (Dan) and her son Barry; sisters-in-law Betty Nath and Mary Ellen Johnson, and many other nieces and nephews. Andy joins his parents, Kenneth E. and Estell Anderson, and brother Eugene Anderson in heaven.

Andy graduated with honors from Bowling Green, Kentucky High School. He shared the top award with two others in the high school’s state clarinet solo contest in his junior year and in his senior year he shared top award with one other. After he attended Western Kentucky State College where he played clarinet and saxophone in the college marching band and the college dance band while pursuing liberal arts studies for two years. Andy then entered the University of Cincinnati where he completed a degree in Engineering and Business, earning membership in the national honorary fraternities of Phi Eta Sigma and Tau Beta Pi. He was also a member of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers); Delta Sigma Pi – Beta Chapter Fraternity of Northwestern University, Chicago, and Beta Chapter House Corporation. Andy served his country during World War II in the US Navy.

He eventually became General Plant Manager of the Container Corporation of America’s Chicago Carton Division. Andy was a national spokesperson for the Paper Board Packaging Industry and served on the National Committee in Washington, D.C. to develop the Universal Product Code (UPC-bar code) and was one of the founders of the Chicago Loop Plant Engineers Society, Andy retired from Jefferson Smurfit-Alton Company as a Division General Manufacturing Manager.

Andy and his wife Shirley enjoyed world travel, taking family members along on some trips, and enjoying the activities and water sports at Lake Sherwood. He was an active investor and enjoyed keeping abreast of the financial markets.

He was an active member of the Elmhurst Presbyterian Church of Elmhurst, Illinois then later of the Bellefontaine Methodist Church in North St. Louis County, and the United Methodist Church of Green Trails in Chesterfield.

Andy will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
