Marilyn Ruth Thaemert - July 27, 1940 to July 1, 2020

I was born Marilyn Ruth Berndt on July 27, 1940 to Clarence and Thekla Berndt in Chicago, Illinois. I was baptized August 11, 1940 at Grace English Lutheran Church.  We lived 3 years in Chicago, then moved to Oconomowoc, Wisconsin for three years before moving to Chester, Illinois. I attended all my grade school years at St. John Lutheran School and two years of high school in Chester, Illinois.  In 1956 our family moved to Denver Colorado and we attended St. John’s Lutheran Church.  My Jr. and Sr. years were spent at Denver Lutheran High.  In 1958 I went to St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas where I met Ferol Thaemert my future husband.  I graduated with an A.A. degree and transferred to Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois.  After graduating in 1962 with a B.S. in Education. We were married in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I was assigned to Salem Lutheran Church and School.  I taught second and third grades for two years before our three children, Angela, Kirk and Kent were born.  I resumed my teaching career again in 1975 teaching preschool for 23 years and kindergarten for 4 years before retiring in 2002.  We have enjoyed traveling to Europe, the Caribbean, and the U.S. while wintering in Florida in our R.V. I departed to my heavenly home on July 1, 2020.

She is survived by her beloved husband Ferol; three children Angela (Tim) Parr, Kirk (Karen) Thaemert, Kent (Beth) Thaemert; eight grandchildren Tyler, Jeremy (Kaylee), Rachel, Scott, Sarah, Emily, Philip, and Maggie; brothers Clarence Berndt and Charles (June) Berndt, sister Dorothy (John) Felten.

She is dearly loved and will be missed greatly, but we have the assurance that we will see her again in heaven with our Savior.

Memorials may be made in Marilyn's name to Heit's Point Lutheran Ministries, 28345 Heits Point Ave, Lincoln, MO 65338, or at www.heitspoint.com.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Baue Funeral Homes does not require, but encourages, all family members and guests to wear a mask while visiting our facilities. Social distancing is required, and guests should stay at least 6 feet apart. Thank you for your understanding.

candle 7Kindest thoughts and prayers. I had the honor of having Mrs. Thaemert for preK and Mr. Thaemert for 8th grade. They were fixtures at Salem and instrumental in shaping thousands of children. Your contribution to our upbringing is priceless. Rest In Peace.

candle 6Our sincere sympathy to Marilyn’s Family and Friends as we all mourn her passing to her heavenly home. Marilyn is safe in the arms of Jesus. May our heavenly Father surround us all with His loving arms and grant us all peace of mind. Marilyn was our friend since 1960 when she was a housemate with Dorothy and was instrumental in helping Darrell begin a relationship with Dorothy. Marilyn was a bridesmaid in our wedding in December of 1962. For 13 years while living in St Louis County, we continued our friendship as we shared celebrations of births of children and get-together’s for other family/friend events. After we moved to Houston, we kept in touch with calls and letters. We will miss our dear friend and sister in Christ. Darrell and Dorothy Schepmann

Didn’t know Marilyn too well and only met her a few times. However, her brother, Clarence enjoyed taking trips with his sister and there was always this tight knit to the Berndt family. May the Lord of life give you comfort and encouragement for the future.

How do we possibly put into words how our heart feels when over 53 years of love and friendship and respect are wrapped up in this message of sincere love to Ferol and all the family as we know Marilyn is with Jesus and He welcomed her with open arms; but we have to adjust to her not being here among us! God will comfort each of us and the family as she would want us to not mourn her; but to celebrate the life she so lovingly shared with everyone and freely gave of her self always with a sweet smile and kindness of her heart! God bless and comfort you all during this time! Forever in our prayers and our hearts!

I have fond childhood memories of my dear cousin. Those cherished memories along with time spent together as adults are woven in my heart. Memorable family times spent at Grandma/Grandpa Berndt’s home 4th of July playing croquet in their backyard. Family reunion camping trips. Most recently the opportunity to share time at your home on my trips to Texas. So many “sister” type conversations. Yes, Marilyn was like a sister to me. I will miss my dear cousin. I pray for peace and comfort for Ferol, Angie/Tim, Kirk/Karen, Kent/Beth and all the grandchildren.
