Julius E. Haeckel, Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on July 7, 2019 at the age of 93. Loving husband and best friend to the late Vivian Haeckel (nee Scharbert); beloved son of the late Mae and Julius E. Haeckel, Sr.; devoted father of Ronald (Susan) Haeckel and Robert (Elizabeth) Haeckel; dear father-in-law to the late Nina Nell; cherished grandfather of Alexis (Brian) Herr, Jonathan Haeckel, Bradley (Sally Warning) Haeckel and Kristine (Jonathan) Dressler; great grandfather to Ethan and Abigail Herr and Lillian Dressler; dear brother to the late Marie (William) Merkle.
Julius proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired as an Executive with Preferred Advertising in St. Louis after more than 40 years of service in advertising. He worked hard all his life, and was able to provide college funds for all of his grandchildren.
Julius loved going bass fishing at Mark Twain Lake and the Current River, and he taught his sons how to fish and they had a great time together. He had a wonderful time dancing to big band music with his wife, Vivian for 63 years, and they enjoyed traveling together all over the world, from the Panama Canal to Alaska, Austria, Germany, Hawaii, Switzerland, and to the East and Western Caribbean.
Even though Julius was an amazing example of a true gentleman, he had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful joker. He loved being a dad to Ron and Bob and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made in Julius’ and Vivian’s names to the
Alzheimer's Association.
