Judith “Judy” Ann Darnell

November 12, 1963 — April 10, 2017

Judith A. Darnell (nee: Hamann) of Dardenne Prairie, MO, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017, at the age of 53. Beloved wife of Larry D. Darnell for 35 years; cherished daughter of Lawrence F. Hamann and MaryAnn Schlesinger; devoted mother of Jeremy Darnell, and Alysha (Robert) Williams; and dear sister of Michael (Cassandra Armstead) Hamann.

Judith was born November 12, 1963 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL. Judith studied to become a registered nurse which she worked as for 15 years before becoming disabled focusing on Intensive Care and Emergency Room work at hospitals in Illinois, Missouri, and Colorado. Her pride and joy was being a mother to Jeremy and Alysha and loved them beyond all words – her biggest accomplishment.

Judith was an avid genealogist; she published six books of her family genealogy and a member of the St. Louis Genealogical Society and the St. Clair County Genealogical Society, in which she was also the former newsletter editor. She advocated for literacy, and volunteered for many years tutoring grade-school age children in reading.

Judith was accomplished in the art of crochet and donated the majority of the hundreds of blankets, hats, scarves, and various other items she made in recent years to various charities. She loved nature and was very passionate about flowers, landscaping, gardening, and birds. She always found a way to make the world around her more beautiful.

Judith channeled her love of cards and stationary into a constant stream of cards and letters she sent over the years to people all over the country for every occasion. She was always a champion of the underdog in every situation and did whatever she could to make the lives of people better in real and tangible ways. Judith was extremely loved and her absence will be felt greatly by all who knew and loved her.

For those wishing to make memorials, they may be made to Dysautonomia International.

As per her wishes, there will be no public services. There will be private services held for family and immediate friends at a later date.
