Joyee Nadine Stroup Stomberg,
of St. Charles, a retired schoolteacher, died on February 23, 2019.
Mrs. Stomberg was born in Virgil, Kansas, but raised in Kirksville, Missouri, where she attended school and received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degrees at Truman University.
She was a secretary at a trade school and later the Falstaff Company, and an airline hostess, before joining the teaching profession. She taught keyboarding, yearbook, junior business, history, and English during her 29 years at Normandy Middle School, St. Louis County.
She held life memberships in Alpha Sigma Alpha and Beta Sigma Phi Sororities, the National Education Association, NTA Retired, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Joseph Health Center Auxiliary, Truman University Alumni Association, St. Charles County Historical Society, St. Charles Parks Friends, The Presbyterian Church, and St. Charles County Library Friends.
Mrs. Stomberg volunteered many places. Those she helped longer than 10 years were: Women’s Center, St. Joseph’s Health Center, Youth in Need, St. Charles County Library, and The Greater St. Charles Convention Center and Visitors’ Bureau.
She was a past Regent of the St. Charles Chapter DAR, and past president of St. Charles Alpha Sigma Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
Her parents, Harry and Sarah (Seaman) Stroup and brother Jackie Stroup preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheree Stomberg, and granddaughters Sasha Stomberg-Firestein, Sophie Stomberg-Firestein, and Sonia Stomberg-Firestein, all of New York City, her niece Sandra J. Stroup Moore and nephew Michael Stroup, both of North Carolina.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to the
Presbyterian Church for the Thanks Offering (world support of medical help), the
St. Charles DAR for the American Indian Scholarship Fund, or the
St. Charles County Arts Council.
