Zike, John E. Lieutenant Colonel US Army (Retired)
Beloved husband of Janet for 27 years, father, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away March 21, 2016.
LTC Zike bravely and proudly served in the US Army. LTC Zike served overseas tours in Germany, Korea, and two tours in Vietnam. Many stateside assignments, one included the Army Personnel Records Center, Overland, MO and in July 1973, LTC Zike was instrumental in the clean-up of the fire. He continued his service for 20 years. After his military service, he worked for 15 years at the Army Personnel Records Center as a micrographic service division chief converting over 80,000 paper records to microfiche per month and was awarded the Achievement Medal for civilian service.
LTC Zike’s numerous military medals include 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 1 Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Staff Service Medal First Class, 2 Achievement Medals, and 2 Accomendation Medals.
He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 312, VFW Post 3944, and AmVets Post 106. He was also a member of O’Fallon Elk’s Lodge 2587, Alton Aerie #254, a lifetime member of Indiana University I Men’s Association, and Theta Chi Fraternity alumnae.
