John J. Schmitt, of Lake St. Louis, MO, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at the age of 65. Loving husband of Rose Schmitt; beloved son of the late Robert and Rose Marie Schmitt; devoted father of Anthony Schmitt, Richard Schmitt, and Christina (Steven) Kurth; step-father of Renee (Andrew) Cranberg, John Steve, and Daniel (Lisa) Steve; cherished grandfather of Holly and Gemma Kurth; step-grandfather of Carter and Hannah Cranberg, MacKinzee and Kassidee Steve; dear brother of Ted (Elizabeth) Schmitt, Carol Smith, Robert (Caryn) Schmitt, Nancy Schmitt, and Scott (Laura) Schmitt; cherished uncle of Jeff, Ricky, Matt, Michael, Nino Schmitt, Amy Schmitt, Julie Smith, Mary Smith, and Rosie Stinson. John is also preceded in death by his nephews, Mark Smith and James Schmitt.

John had a passion for woodworking. He enjoyed finish carpentry and intricate work. He could build anything and loved teaching woodworking to other members of the family. John liked cycling and competed in five triathlons and participated in Pedal the Cause for 6 years. When it came to barbeque, John was the master. He and his family would have barbeque contests. He also enjoyed canoe rides. John was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John's name to Pedal the Cause or BJC Hospice.

John has donated his body to Washington University School of Medicine.
