John Charles Hanneke, 79, of St Charles, passed away on October 27.
John was born in St Louis, Missouri to August and Ruth Hanneke on April 3, 1940. He went to St Louis University High School and graduated college from St Louis University. He married JoAnn Kutter on September 10, 1960. He worked as an Information Technology Manager for Boeing/McDonnell Douglas for 51 years retiring in 2011.
John was a strong and committed family man. He enjoyed nothing better than attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events. John had the ability to make you feel special and always provided positive re-enforcement and unwavering support.
John’s second passion was public service. He held many elected offices and served on many local & state boards for the past 40+ years. Most recently on the St. Charles City Council (past President) and Crime Stoppers.
John is survived by his wife JoAnn (Kutter), children John Jr. (Laurie), Deborah Finley (John), Keith (Beverly) and Mark (Mariah) and 8 grandchildren Melissa, Matt, Tyler, Collin, Shayla (Ethan), Drew (Amy), Brandt and Reid.
He is preceded in death by his father, August, and mother, Ruth.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Missouri Botanical Garden or the donor’s choice.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Agha and the Oncology Nurses at the SSM Cancer Center as well as St. Louis University Hospital who accepted John’s body which was gifted for science.
