John D. Dowdy

John David Dowdy, of O'Fallon, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the age of 90.  Loving husband of 65 years to Marjorie Dowdy (nee: Colbert); beloved son of the late Ransom and Elizabeth Dowdy; devoted father of Michele (Dennis) Perino, Ellen (Larry) Shobe, Robert (Angela) Dowdy, and the late John D. Dowdy; cherished grandfather of Jeffrey (Erin) Ziercher, Thomas (Janice) Perino, Ethan Dowdy, Brandon Dowdy, and Justin Dowdy, treasured great-grandfather of Jordan Ziercher, Abigail Ziercher, Mason Perino, and Maxwell Perino.  John was also preceded in death by his grandsons, Jason Shobe and Anthony Perino.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He retired after more than 40 years as a Chemist with Monsanto. He loved to take adventures and travel to many destinations. He enjoyed photography, astronomy, golf, and tending to his plants and flowers.

John also enjoyed cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, and never missed a game.  He was a true snacker at heart, and looked forward to his Cheddar Blast Goldfish, Dierberg’s Smokey Potato Chips, and chocolate ice cream. Above all else, he truly enjoyed spending time with his family.  John was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
