Joanne Elizabeth Courtney

April 11, 1939 — July 7, 2019

Joanne Elizabeth Courtney (nee:Erisey) passed from this life on July 7, 2019 after a short and fierce battle with cancer. She dealt with her illness with humor and bravery.  Devoted mother of Danielle Marie “Dani” Courtney, Christine Elise Courtney (Kevin McCormick), September Lorraine Courtney (Joe), William Richard (Sandy) Courtney; loving grandmother of Steven and Rachel McCormick and Jack Courtney; dear sister of Kathleen (Mike) Myers, Denise (Phil) Jackson, Stevens (Colleen) Erisey.  She was preceded in death by her husband, David Courtney, her parents Clyde and Elinore Erisey, her siblings Scott, David, Richard, and Jane Erisey.

Joanne proudly served in the United States Air Force.  She worked as a bookkeeper and retired after more than 20 years.  She was then able to enjoy all of life’s little pleasures.  Joanne was a true nature lover and she enjoyed the outdoors and going to the beach to sit by the ocean.  She loved to draw, paint, crochet, knit, quilt, and read mysteries and sci-fi.  She looked forward to hitting the garage sales to find that special something!  In her spare time, she also liked going to the movies and catching one of her favorite shows on TV, and when she was winding down she would enjoy listening to some classics by Elvis, Roger Williams, or Etta James.

Joanne had a witty sense of humor and truly enjoyed life!  She will be remembered by family and friends for her sweet nature and charm.  She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Memorial contributions may be made in Joanne’s name to Disabled American Veterans or St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
