Joan M. Schmidt (nee Stagoski) passed away Monday, December 17 at the age of 89 following a wonderful Christmas celebration with her family at the Villages of St Peters Memory Care Center. Joan had a unique fun-loving form of dementia that kept the child alive in all who were in her life. Her many talents of sewing, upholstery, knitting and stained glass are on display at her treasured Innsbrook A-Frame escape. One of her most familiar quotes to her family was "There's no such thing as I can't; it's I'll try". Joan was a 1947 graduate (prom queen) of Beaumont High School, raised her family at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Parish, helped to start Lancet Medical Supply, then retired to their home in Lake Saint Louis as a member of Transfiguration Episcopal church. She is survived by the love of her life and devoted caregiver & husband, Carl Schmidt; beloved children Lisa (Mark) Hilton, Lauren (Robert) Bergtholdt and David (Dawn) Schmidt; cherished grandchildren Scott & Jackie Hilton, Hallie & Tyler (Jessica) Bergtholdt, Jake, Riley & Colby Schmidt and great-grandchildren Landon & Taylor Bergtholdt; sister of Edwina DuBois & the late Eleanore Waldt; many nephews, nieces, friend to many people and pets.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorials made to Shriners Hospitals for Children - St Louis, 4400 Clayton Ave, STL 63110 OR the Alzheimer's Association of St Louis, 9374 Olive Blvd, Olivette MO 63132
We extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff at The Bridge at Florissant and most especially to Villages of St Peters Memory Care for their genuine care of our whole family.
