Jerrel Lynn Swingle

November 8, 1928 — January 12, 2019

Jerrel Lynn Swingle, of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019, at the age of 90. Loving husband of 57 wonderful years to Judy Swingle; beloved son of the late Merle and Viola Swingle; devoted father of Dr. Christopher (Katherine) Swingle; cherished grandfather of Emma Swingle and Noah Swingle; Jerrel is preceded in death by his brother, Brian Swingle.

Jerrel proudly served his country with honor in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and was a member of Dardenne Presbyterian Church. He also loved art, and was a lifelong painter, artist, and creative writer. Jerrel was a published author in several writing journals, and had a long career as an artist and art teacher. In 1961 he was the original creator of Lafayette County (Missouri)/ Higginsville High School’s beloved mascot, "Harold The Husker,” proudly representing the school for over 57 years. He had a great sense of humor, was dearly loved, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jerrel’s honor to the H.O.P.E. Food Pantry or Presbyterian Children’s Home.
