James Jakle

December 6, 1919 — November 21, 2016

Jakle, Jr. James R., of Saint Peters, MO, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2016, at the age of 96. Beloved husband of the late Virginia R. Jakle (nee: Wood) for 68 years; beloved son of the late James and Anna Jakle; dearest father of Carol (Robert) Wolfe, James R. (Linda) Jakle III, and John Brian (Michelle) Jakle; cherished grandfather of James R. Jakle IV, Christopher (Emily) Jakle, Elizabeth (Ben) McMahan, Brett Jakle, and Erin Jakle; treasured great-grandfather of Tyler, Mary, and Samantha; and dear brother-in-law of John (Mary) Wood and Sally Wood. Our dear uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for the Federal Government for over 45 years, including his military service. Most of his career was spent working as the head of the Management department for the Department of Defense Contract Agency. He also obtained his Associates Degree in Business from St. Louis University. Jim was truly devoted to his wife, Virginia, and enjoyed traveling with her after he retired in 1981. He was very proud of his Irish heritage: loved Irish history, whiskey, and music. In his spare time, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, bird watching, and watching St. Louis Cardinals’ baseball games. Jim was a great man who was well-loved and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
