James A. Burnitt

January 23, 1943 — December 27, 2016

James passed peacefully from this life the afternoon of Tuesday, December 27, 2016.  He was surrounded and supported by his loving wife, children and grandchildren.  James was born January 23, 1943, in Mittie, Louisiana.  He was the only child of Thomas Vance and Minnie Maude (Meyers) Burnitt.

James graduated from Fairview High School in Grant, Louisiana and attended Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He had many long-time friends from his school years.  He loved the Lord and was baptized in his teenage years.

In 1961, James met the love of his life, Cherry Lynn Cox; he married his best friend and life long partner on February 3, 1962.  James and Cherry loved each other every single day and were together as one during almost 55 years of marriage.  Their love was the purest and richest ever known as James loved his “Dear” with all his heart.

James and Cherry began their married life in Tallulah, Louisiana and then moved in 1965 to St. Charles, Missouri, where they built their family home and raised their three children – James Lynn, Melis Roxanna and Sara Letitia.

James’ most precious treasure was his family.  He is survived by his loving wife, Cherry Lynn.  He is the devoted dad of James L.(Lisa) Burnitt, Melis R. (Daron) Bryant and S. Letitia (Robert Erp) Burnitt-Erp; cherished papaw of Jessica (Aaron) Bennett, Thomas Burnitt, Jazmyn Burnitt-Erp, Austin Burnitt and Joseph Burnitt-Erp; and treasured great-grandfather of Katelynn Bennett; with a loving Aunt and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a foster brother.

James retired after 40 years as a Journeymen Plumber from Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562 in 2000.  He was known to many as the “friendly neighborhood plumber”.  His contagious laughter, hilarious humor and storytelling, incredible strength and wisdom will be missed.  James loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He also loved wildlife, flowers, music, western movies but most of all…his loving family.  James never met a stranger and had many friends that touched and shaped his life.

Laid to rest on Tuesday, January 2, 2017.  Buried at St. Charles Memorial Gardens: Garden of the Falls.
