Harley A. Krieger

Krieger, Rev. Dr. Harley Albert Paul, age 94 was born May 5, 1925 in New Ulm, Minnesota to Henry F. Krieger and Hertha Radke Krieger. He died on June 5, 2019 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri with his family by his side.

Pastor Krieger graduated from Eden Seminary in Webster Groves, Missouri with a Master of Divinity Degree. He later earned a Doctor of Ministry Degree at Eden also. For 37 years, he pastored churches in Missouri and Illinois. He served Trinity UCC in Quincy, Illinois, Hope UCC in DeSoto, Missouri, Marine UCC in Marine, Illinois, and Salem UCC in Quincy, Illinois. In 1964, Pastor Krieger accepted a call to Bethel United Church of Christ. Bethel church had been located on Garrison and Greer near the old Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis. The 50 member congregation had sold their building and bought property in Florissant so the church could relocate. Rev. Krieger secured a temporary place for the congregation to worship with the Hazelwood School District in their Jr. High Cafeteria. The new church building was constructed on New Halls Ferry Rd. Under his leadership the church grew to a membership of over 500. He served at Bethel on New Halls Ferry Rd. for 24 years. After retiring from Bethel Church, Rev. Krieger continued to work as an interim and supply minister for churches in the areas of St. Louis and St. Charles Counties.

Pastor Krieger was the devoted husband of Mary Louise (Glauert) Krieger who preceded him in death in August of 2018. The couple were married for 70 years before her passing. Pastor Krieger was the dedicated father of Carolyn Sue Krieger Graves (Bill), Paul Harley Krieger (Janis), Mark Harley Krieger and Laura Louise Krieger Davidson (Mark) and cherished grandfather of 9 grandchildren: Jessica and Joel Graves, Matthew Krieger (Rachel), Kim Krieger Martin (Ben), Rachel Krieger, Leah Krieger Mulfinger (Mark), Richelle Davidson, Jenna Davidson Baskin (Robert) and Krista Davidson. Harley and Mary Lou also have 4 great-grandchildren: Nyle and Barrett Krieger, Ava Martin and Elliot Mulfinger. Harley was also preceded in death by his two brothers Henry and Harold and a sister, Harriet.


Memorial donations can be made to the Elmhurst College Rev. Harley A Krieger Scholarship or a charity of our choice. Make checks payable to Elmhurst College designated in the memo to the Rev. Harley A. Krieger Scholarship and mailed to 190 South Prospect Ave., Elmhurst, IL 60126.


Rev. Krieger will be buried beside his dear wife Mary Lou at Lake Charles Park Cemetery at 7775 St. Charles Rock Road in St. Louis, MO.
