Gonzalo T. Roman, Jr. MD, age 88, of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017. Loving husband of 64 years to Liwanag P. Roman; beloved son of the late Gonzalo T., Sr. and Liceria Roman; devoted father of Gonzalo Roman III, Priscilla Roman, Joel (Jamie) Roman, David Roman, Aurora (Gary) Saddler, Alan (Denice) Roman, and Arlene (Michael) Riordan; cherished grandfather of Jessica (David) Tinney, Robert R. (Theresa) Smith III, Jason Roman, Christopher (Rachel) Smith, Michael (Emily) Smith, Ilia (Evan) Flagg, Raena (Adam) Schellinger, Natassia (Daniel) Ott, Jackson Roman, Alexandra (Hunter) House, Jordan Riordan, Jace Roman, Nicole Roman, Jillian Roman, Jonathan Riordan, Andrew Roman, and Nicholas Riordan; treasured great-grandfather of Hannah, Raeanna, Carter, David, Robert IV, Roman, Anson, Lyllian, Anderson, Caroline, Juliana, Canon, Sienna, Nora, Zara, Raymond, June, Hank, and Duke; dearest brother of Milagros (the late William) Banton; and dear half-brother of Modesto (Myrna) Martinez. Gonzalo was also preceded in death by his siblings, Pablo Roman, Reynaldo Roman, Simplicia Roman, Emilia Stentz, Rodolfo Roman, and Sisinia Calingo.
Gonzalo was a Physician and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He received his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, in 1953, completed his internship at Kanawha Valley Hospital in Charleston, WV, residency at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, WV and Homer G. Philips Hospital in St Louis, MO, and fellowship in Cardiology at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He practiced Internal Medicine and Cardiology in Cebu City, Philippines from 1959 to 1970. In 1970, Dr. Roman returned to St Louis and practiced at Homer G. Philips Clinic, St. Louis Comprehensive Neighborhood Center, and a private practice with his sister and brother-in-law in North St. Louis. He continued his public service working for and eventually retiring from the VA Medical System, serving in Poplar Bluff, MO and Laredo, TX. He enjoyed golf, chess, bridge, billiards and bowling. He was dearly loved, and will be missed by all who knew him.
