Glenn L. “Smitty” Smith

November 4, 1927 — May 13, 2017

Glenn L. “Smitty” Smith, of St. Charles, MO, May 13, 2017, age 89. Loving husband of the late Clara "Betty" E. Smith; beloved son of the late John and Lucille P Smith; devoted father of Tron Klosterhoff; cherished grandfather of Meghan Klosterhoff and Brett (Kayla) Klosterhoff; dear brother of Gail Witherbee and Beverly Lee; uncle, great-uncle, great-great uncle, and friend to many. He is preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Smith and sister, Nancy Ann Smith.



Glenn proudly served his country in the United States Army Signal Corp during World War II and was stationed in Japan during the occupation. After the war he went to work as an electrician who specialized in temperature control. He was a member of IBEW Local 1  for 72 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #80 and was a volunteer for Community Fire Protection District in Overland, MO where he was elected as one of three Directors. He lobbied for the Good Samaritan Law as well as mutual aid.  He worked with the late Missouri State Senator Robert Young to design North Central Fire Alarm in St John. Glenn was a lifelong Ham Radio operator  (W0DQY) and enjoyed anything electronic. Glenn was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.



The family would also like to thank the dedicated caregivers at Barnes St. Peters Hospital, Life Care of Bridgeton, and Mason Point Lutheran Senior Services Hospice.



Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Shriners Hospital for Children or Ranken Jordan Children's Home.
