Geraldine Sue Ziegemeier

September 30, 1937 — June 30, 2020

Geraldine Sue Ziegemeier of Saint Charles, MO, passed away at the age of 82 on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Albert Joseph Ziegemeier Jr.; cherished daughter of the late Harvey and Ruth Childers; loving mother of Delora "Lorie" (Robert) Busby, Sarah (Timothy) Filip, and the late Albert “Joey” Ziegemeier III; treasured grandmother of Jacob Filip, Dylan Filip, Katherine Busby, Elizabeth Busby, Julianna Busby, and great-grandmother of Sam Filip; dear sister of Helen (the late Bob) Burns, Carol (the late Lutz) Wittig, Michael (Beverly) Childers, and the late Barbara and James D. Veron, and John Childers.

Geraldine Sue Childers grew up in rural northwestern Missouri amongst a big extended family that called her Sue or Susie.  She was in nurse’s training at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis when she met Al Ziegemeier, he called her Jerri. They were married soon afterwards and after living for a short time in Panama City, Florida and Pasadena, California they settled in his home town of St. Charles, Missouri, where she was known as Jerri from then on.

She grew to love St. Charles and here, together with Al, she raised 3 children. Later they were thrilled to welcome to the family son-in-laws, grandchildren and a great-grandson. She loved her family and was encouraging of and hopeful for them.

She was proud to have practiced nursing at St. Charles Clinic for over 40 years. In addition to her family and her nursing career she had many other interests: canoeing and camping, scouting, book clubs and reading, African violets and houseplants, poker club, bowling league, quilt club, stained glass, painting, basket weaving, finance club, travel, bread making, ancestry and quilting. These various interests led to many deep friendships. She was a good listener and was able to chat with just about anyone and put them at ease. She spoke often of her love for her friends and how important friendships were to her.

Her life also had its share of sorrows and challenges that she coped with by leaning on the love she received and gave to others. She will be deeply missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Geraldine’s honor to the Karen Weidinger Foundation or Volunteers in Medicine – St. Charles.
