Frank B. Scherr was born October 1, 1931 and passed away March 13, 2017. He was born in Siebert, Colorado, the first son of eight children of Frank and Adeline Scherr. He moved to Kansas where the family farmed. Later, the family moved to St. Louis, MO when he was 10 years old. His family was one of the charter families that built St. Gregory the Great, Catholic Church, in St. Ann. He was educated at St. Gregory, St. Mary and McBride high school. He joined the Navy and served 4 years as a Boatswain mate on the USS Rupertus during the Korean conflict. He was awarded many service medals.

Frank worked 40 years at McDonnell Aircraft (later McDonnell Douglas) before retiring in 1992. Starting as a line-up man he worked his way up to union shop steward. He did so well there, that he was recruited into management working his way up from supervisor eventually to superintendent. He was awarded many times for suggestions on efficiency and for superior work.

When McDonnell Aircraft was building the first Mercury Spacecraft, he was working in the drop hammer room making skins for the exteriors. He met the 7 original astronauts who toured the plant on a regular basis. When President John F. Kennedy toured with Mr. Mac, Frank got to shake his hand.

He coached CYC baseball, soccer and softball. He was a member of the Vincent committee that built the refreshment stand at the athletic fields by St. Sabina Catholic school in Florissant. He chaired the Beautification Committee and was a member of the subcommittee of the Oxford Estates Subdivision in St. Charles.

He married Kathleen Molloy in 1953. They had 3 children, Cheryl Scherr (Ken Isaak), Michelle Buono (Michael) and Frank, Jr.

Kathy and Frank Jr. preceded him in death. Surviving besides his daughters are his ‘perfect’ granddaughter, Doctor Kristen Kathleen Rose Buono, sisters Joan Smith, Dottie Johnson, and Maggie Allen (Bill), brother-in-law Bert Callier, and sister-in-law Pat (McDonough) Scherr. Preceding him in death were his brother, John and sisters Alice (Sister Francile SSND), Cecilia Callier and Catherine Shine, brothers-in-law Bill Shine and Bill Smith. His large extended family and his friends will miss him greatly
