Eugene Calvin Bell, of St. Charles, MO, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the age of 69. Cherished son of the late Jack and Dorothy Bell. beloved husband of Gail Bell; loving brother of Tim (Janice Duncan) Bell, Lois Brandon, Carolyn (Larry) Siegler, and the late James "Bub" Bell; dear brother-in-law of Leslie Bell, and the late Paul Brandon. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, and longtime best friend, Joe Vitale.
Gene was born in Saint Louis to Dorothy and Jack Bell. He went to high school at Central High School and graduated in 1969. He retired from General Motors Corporation in April 2009, just shy of 40 years of loyal service. He served as a Deputy Sheriff for the City of Saint Louis, 1981 through 1983 while on layoff from General Motors. He is a retired member of UAW Local 2250.
Gene enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He loved to fish, hunt, and play sports. He had a passion for anything that involved the great outdoors. He loved to entertain people, playing drums and organ in a band until he could no longer do so. He loved to travel, attend, and participate in live theatre. He loved a good challenge and usually overcame them with ease.
He had a fantastic memory and thoroughly enjoyed conversing with family and friends on any subject. He was a friend, coach, and mentor to many. He is someone who meant so much… he will live on in so many memories.
Gene’s last act of kindness was to give his heart to the Encore VT Research Study upon passing so others might benefit from his condition. We mourn the passing of a kind, sweet, and gentle soul. He had a loving and generous heart, always giving to others.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the
American Heart Association. Condolences may be left in Gene’s online guestbook at Baue.com. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to his caretakers for their support in his final days.
