Eleanor “Ele” Bonine

Eleanor “Ele” Bonine (nee Smith), of St. Charles, MO, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the age of 88. She was born November 25, 1928 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Raymond K. and Marjorie Smith (nee Anderson). Devoted mother of James (Diana) Bonine, Jane Reilly, and William Bonine; cherished grandmother of Nicholas G. Melton, Daniel (Angela) Melton, Lillian Reilly, Christopher (Jonda) Bonine, and John Bonine; treasured great-grandmother of Kaili Melton, Ella Melton, Max Bonine, Elizabeth Bonine, and Shayla Bonine; beloved sister of Janet Mills, David B. (Jean) Smith, and Judy Goodall; and a dear friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Cynthia Smith.

Eleanor was a former resident of both Jackson and Cassopolis, Michigan. She was a proud graduate of Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught accounting and typing at Hazelwood Central High School for many years. She valued tending her flower garden and spent many days working outside in her yard. She also enjoyed baking an exceptional cookie, reading, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. She will be remembered as a kind-hearted and sociable woman who never knew a stranger. She found a friend in everyone she met. Her beauty and exceptional sense of humor will be missed. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
