Edgar “Ed” W. Heck of O’Fallon, MO, passed Monday, April 16, 2018, at the age of 88. Beloved husband of 40 years to Carol Heck; cherished son of the late Edgar W. Sr. and Myrtle Heck; devoted father of Susan (Bernie) DuClos, Timothy (Mary) Heck, Dale (Lynn) Heck, Jill (Harry) Hough, Paul (Kathleen) Heck, Amy (Scott) Celeste, Scott (Tracie) Heck, Cecil (Rosalia) Touchon, Dan (Sue) Touchon, and Matt (Ester) Touchon; loving Grandfather of 32, Great-Grandfather of 30, and Great-Great-Grandfather of 4; dear brother-in-law of Terri Heck; and treasured uncle, relative, and friend to many. Edgar is also preceded in death by his grandson Eric Heck, and brother Kenneth Heck.
Edgar proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning home he dedicated many years as a Furniture Salesman and came to be known as ‘The Best Furniture Man in St. Louis’. He started his career as a salesman with Cousin's Furniture, climbing the ranks from warehouse employee to General Manager, for more than 25 years. He then transitioned to working for Winner’s Only Furniture and later managed Carol House Furniture during its biggest growth years. At every business he gained many customers with his ‘never met a stranger’ personality. He was also a great sports fan, always cheering on the St. Louis Blues, or taking in a baseball game. In his earlier years he even played baseball in Japan, tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals, and was inducted as a member of the St. Louis Softball Hall of Fame. Edgar will be remembered for his caring and friendly nature. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
