Douglas Val Gene Flora

October 14, 1957 — October 1, 2017

Douglas Val Gene Flora went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the age of 59.  He carried many titles in his life.  He was “son” to Val Gene and Patricia Ann Flora.  He was “brother” to Lara Mae Flora, Angel (Bret) Burchfield, Scott Flora, and Shannan Flora.  He was “sweetie” to his wife of 38 years, Jane Flora.  He was “dad” to his kids, Emily (Taylor) Bruce and Aaron (Jana) Flora.  And he was “Grandad” to Molly, Ezra, Leah, Ben, Megan, Olivia, and baby on the way.  He loved the Lord and attended The Crossing Church in St. Peters, MO.

His work and his hobbies played equally important roles throughout his life.  Having worked 33 years for McDonnell Douglas-Boeing, he took great pride in his “birds” any time he heard their jet engines overhead.  Most days he left the office and found deep fulfillment in developing mutual friendships with fellow Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwan Do students.  He trained his students hard and himself harder attaining his 3rd degree black belt and leading schools in both Wentzville and University City.  Doug also loved frequenting the golf course with his son and his other golfing buddies, driving his grandkids around in his big red truck and green tractor, traveling the world and enjoying good food and ice cream wherever it could be had.  He was a devoted patriot and enjoyed shooting guns as a member of the United States Concealed Carry Association, continually learning and talking about World History, and he took great pride in his ROTC service during his college years.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to one of the organizations Doug supported with his heart and wallet.  His dear friend, Catherine Shaw has started a non for profit called All Among Us that builds friendships with and provides support to homeless people and single mothers.  Taylor Bruce, his son-in-law, has started a ministry called Inside Out Prison Ministry.  They build friendships with inmates who are close to coming out of jail and continue those friendships and support on the outside.
