Dorothy W. Gillette

August 21, 1929 — February 13, 2010

Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Debt Reduction Fund, Healthwell Foundation, Bridging the Gap or Food Outreach Foundation. Dorothy (Wolter) Gillette was the dear wife of Leland Gillette of St. Charles, loving mother of Tom (Holly) Gillette, Anne (Mike) Woods, and Susan (Tim) Deppe and dear grandmother of Clare, Helena and Rod Gillette, Ben Woods, Erin, Andrew and Adelaide Deppe. She is also survived by her sisters, Arlie Wolter and Shirley Wolter, in-laws Marshall and Jean Gillette, Joanie and Dallas Barteau and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes (Nolle) and Herbert Wolter, brother Melvin Wolter and sister Stella Wolter. Dorothy and Leland Gillette owned and operated Parview Gardens Florist and Greenhouses in St. Charles as sole owners since 1961. Dorothy started working for Parkview, then owned by Ben and Clara Rau, when she was 15 years old. Her father, Herbert Wolter, also worked for Parkview. Faith, family, friends and business have all been important priorities in her life. Much of what is now Parkview Gardens is due to Dorothy's wisdom, faith and hard work. To her final days Dorothy had an active interest in the family business and was a great sounding board for, "Mom, what do you think about this idea?" Dorothy was active in industry organizations and served several years as district president for FTD. Dorothy was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served as president of the Mother's Club and Mother's Club Alumni. Born in Orchard Farm and raised in St. Charles, Dorothy loved her community and was a member for many years of the St. Charles Historical Society.
