Delbert “DC” Rood, Jr.

August 1, 1925 — August 4, 2016

Delbert C Rood Jr passed away August 4, 2016 at the age of 91. He was born August 1, 1925 in St. Charles, MO to Delbert C Rood, Sr and Goldie C Rood. Del, or D.C., as he was known to family and friends, attended St. Peters Grade School and St. Charles High School and always called St. Charles home. A Veteran of World War ll, he served in the United States Marine Corps. D.C was assigned to boot camp training in San Diego, California, attached to the 998th Platoon and deployed to the Pacific Theatre of Operations.  He was honorably discharged as Corporal in 1946 and lived his life a proud Marine, a veteran and a patriot. 

He returned to St. Charles after the war and married his sweetheart, Mildred R Orf, on June 5, 1948. They raised nine children.  D.C. was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office for over 25 years before retiring in 1985. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, and by his son, Kevin C Rood.  He is survived by his children Michael Rood (Linda), Greg Rood (Lana), Rita Monat (Robert), Mark Rood (Michelle), Dane Rood (Lori), Carla Gazall, Jeff Rood, Eric Rood (Tammy), grandchildren Travis Rood, Megan Frankenberg, Jason Rood, Nathaniel Rood, Kyle Rood, Kara Rood, Dustin Rood, Callie Rood, Amanda Rood and Katlynn Rood, great grandchildren Laura and Natalie Rood and Ethan and Davis Frankenberg.

D.C. was an avid fisherman his whole life who passed on his love of fishing and knowledge of fly-tying to many of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also took up woodworking in retirement and left a legacy of handmade furniture and clocks. D.C. loved to talk, had a million stories and was always ready for a party or celebration. Nothing made him happier than to have the house full of family and friends.
