Darrell E. Thompson

July 9, 1955 — June 19, 2020

Darrell E. Thompson, of Wentzville, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 19, 2020 at the age of 64. Loving husband of Connie Thompson; beloved son of the late Earl and Yvonne Thompson; devoted father of Chad (Angela) Thompson and Scott (Missy) Thompson; cherished grandfather of Chris Thompson, Jonas Thompson, Salena Thompson, Levi Thompson, Emily Thompson, Amanda Thompson, Tessa Thompson, and Corinne Thompson; dear brother of Roxanna (Ron) Kruse, Jim (LeeAnn) Thompson, and Rick (Debbie) Thompson.

Darrell was born in Chicago, and grew up in Danvers and Normal, Illinois.  He remained well loved by his U-High classmates.  He was a man of great character, whose family was often told by others how much Darrell meant to them.

Darrell loved the Lord with his whole heart.  He was very involved at First Baptist Church of O’Fallon.  He was a sincere and dedicated man who had a way of relating to people that made them think of him as family, rather than merely a friend or co-worker.  He cared sincerely about everyone he met.

Like his father before him, Darrell was very committed to his family, and especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandkids, they were the joy of his life.  Being involved in his family was very important to him, whether that be coaching his sons’ sports teams or attending his grandchildren’s activities.

As an outdoorsman, Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.  He looked forward to his yearly fishing trip to Canada with a group of friends.  He cherished family vacations, and especially enjoyed their big trip out West to visit the famous sites.  They also had great fun on their float trips on the Current River.

Darrell filled a room, and commanded a well-earned respect, but was always the first to jest and tease.  He could be described as one part ornery, one part kidding, and two parts deeply caring.  He could yell at a referee, get threatened with ejection, keep on the official, and end up laughing with arms around each other’s shoulders by the time they left the gym.

As we think about our Darrell, we feel the words of Psalm 112:6, “For the righteous will never be moved; he will be remembered forever.”  Darrell is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial contributions may be made in Darrell's name to Heartcry Missionary Society or Granted Ministries.
