Dale Eugene Henner

May 25, 1931 — August 31, 2019

Dale Eugene Henner of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of the late Dolores J. Henner; cherished son of the late Anna Fern and, Emil “Bud” Henner; devoted father of Lisa (Mike) Thelen, Jill (Mike) Schlueter and the late Kim Kindler; treasured stepfather of Pat (Marly) French, Dana (Evan Goldstein) French, Jackie (Mike) Maginn, and Michael French; dear father-in-law of Rick Kindler; loving grandfather of Kyle, Brittany, Amanda, Chase, Allison, Lizzy, Leo, Luke, Lily and Randy; and sweet great-grandfather of Kendra, Gregory, Carmella, Lauren and Lindsay; best friend of the late Dr. Robert (Bob) Mobley and also survived by his cherished golden retriever, Sadie.

Dale attended Beaumont High School and received a football scholarship to Truman State where he played football and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Arts. He was proud to assist football coach Red Wade in learning and refining his skills as a future high school football coach himself. Dale honorably served his country as first lieutenant in the United States Marines. He played football on the Camp Lejeune team.

Dale’s entire career was dedicated to the education of our youth. Starting out at Kirby High School in the Hazelwood School District as an industrial arts teacher and soon became their football coach. He lead his team to victory many times, but the game against McClure High School in 1967 was a special victory for the team as he displays the game ball on his mantle. Dale also showed his passion for sports as a referee for wrestling and basketball games for the district.  He became building principal for the Hazelwood West High School between 1974 and 1987, and after 40 years of loyalty and dedication to the students he retired as Assistant Superintendent.

After retirement, Dale enjoyed sharing his experiences when running into former students with his family and friends. Dale managed the Village Square Swimming Pool for Hardesty and Johnson and started the swimming team. Dale and his great friend John Fitterling started a successful pool business together and shared ownership on several different boats taking their families on many excursions to the river and Lake of the Ozarks.

Dale loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting with his buddies, beagles and bird dogs. He and his former wife, Jean Plenge, spent countless weekends traveling with his daughters to horse shows throughout Missouri and Illinois. Dale and his late wife, Dolores, looked forward to their tailgate parties before each of the Rams games and followed the Rams to New Orleans, Las Vegas and Atlanta. Dale was a season ticket holder for the Football Cardinals and St Louis Rams. Dale and his late wife Dolores spent many evenings wining, dining, and socializing at their lifelong friends’ restaurant Lombardo’s; when they weren’t at Lombardo’s they were at Spiro’s. Dale was a great leader, kindhearted, caring, and very generous. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorials may be made in Dale Henner’s name to Five Acres Animal Shelter or PTA at Hazelwood School District.
