Charles F. Gierse of Saint Charles, MO, originally of Farmington, MO, passed away at the age of 94 on Thursday, December 19, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Birdie May Gierse; and four siblings.
Charles is survived by his wife of 70 years, Melba Gierse; his children, Charles (Donna) Gierse, Jr. and James (Jo) Gierse; his grandchildren, Lisa (Chris) Duesing, Katherine (Jason) Hollis, Brian (Robin) Gierse, Margaret (Adam) LaMore, and Matthew (Emily) Gierse; and his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Hailey, Caleb, Hannah, Ethan, Jennifer, and Amelia.
Charles was a dedicated Cardinals fan and attended many games over the years. He had a passion for music and loved to catch a show at the Muni or spend an evening at the symphony. Charles was always a supportive father who treasured the memories he made with his family during their travels or camping trips. He never knew a stranger and his very sociable personality made it easy for him to talk to anyone.
Charles proudly served in the United States Navy. He spent many years as a salesman and retired from Dillard’s after a twenty-year career. Charles was active in the Florissant Senior Citizens Commission, where he was a senior citizen representative, and at Zion Lutheran Church where he volunteered his time and talents for 65 years. Charles was also a long time volunteer at Missouri Baptist Hospital.
