Charles “Charlie” William Niebur

Charles “Charlie” William Niebur, age 100 of Saint Charles, Missouri beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend of the past few years in St. Charles, MO, previously Quincy, Illinois, Arcadia, Florida, and St. Louis, Missouri, passed away Saturday December 15, 2018 in St. Charles, MO.

Charlie was born in Pittsfield, Illinois on October 7, 1918 a son of Paul E. Niebur and Gladys Niebur (nee Nicholson). Charlie and Mildred (nee Williams) were married on June 28, 1941.

Charlie started his career in St. Louis, MO, at Shell Oil, 1939 and within a couple of years was recruited by Mr. Paul Hartog Oil Inc. as an accountant and dispatcher, promoted to general office manager and in 1952 Vice President and then Executive Vice President until he retired. Charlie (a deacon) and Mildred were member of Memorial Christian Church in St. Louis, MO, and later Halls Ferry Christian Church, Florissant, MO. He was a very strong family man who loved and respected nature. Charlie also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and traveling with family and friends throughout North America. He was a great storyteller and listener. Charlie wrote about his personal life experiences in his “Memoirs of Small Town American Life Early-Mid 1900s.”

He is preceded in death by beloved wife of 61 years, Mildred Virginia Niebur (nee Williams); daughter Sue Eberle and son-in-law Gerry Eberle; daughter Marsha Young and son-in-law John Young. Beloved father, Paul Niebur and mother, Gladys Niebur (nee Nicholson); father-in-law Leland Williams and mother-in-law Clara Maude Williams; beloved brother Phil and sister-in-law Ruby; brother Paul and sister-in-law Leoline; and brother Dean. Sister-in-law, Marilyn (wife of Bob Niebur). Beloved nephew Mike Niebur; beloved sister-in-law Barbara Leatherman (Williams) and brother-in-law John Leatherman; sister-in-law Jane Spangenberg (Williams) and brother-in-law Jack Spangenberg; brothers-in-law Leo Dunham and A. L. Kiser. Companion Karolyn Sorenson (nee Klinefelter) of Arcadia, Florida.

He is survived by beloved brother Robert “Bob” Niebur; beloved daughters Joan Ickes (Jack) and Cheryl Lapinski (Paul). Grandchildren Michael Eberle, Christine Young, John Young (Liz), David Young, Jeff Young (Meredith), Jeff Maier (Katy), Jake Lapinski (Melanie), Luke Maier, Jamie Lapinski Brown (Chris), and Nathan Maier. Fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Sisters-in-law Hilda Dunham (Williams), Enid Kiser (Williams), and Joann Phillips (Williams) and brother-in-law Bob Phillips. Several Niebur and Williams nieces and nephews and their families. Special friend Margie Thurston. Charlie was known by all as a good man and father who is deeply loved and missed.

Memorial contributions may be made in Charles’ honor to Missouri Department of Conservation or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
