Catherine Louise Durand

May 21, 1948 — March 4, 2018

Catherine Louise Durand passed away on March 04th, 2018 in St. Louis County, MO.

Cathy was born on May 21, 1948 in Flint, Michigan. She was the oldest of five children born to Joyce Leone Sewell and Gerald Frederick Durand of Fenton, Michigan. Cathy graduated as valedictorian from Holy Redeemer High School in Flint, Michigan in 1966.  She entered the convent of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM Sisters) in Monroe, Michigan right out of high school and was a member of the order until 1974. She received her B.A. in Theology in 1971 and her M.A. in Biblical Languages and Literature in 1974 from St. Louis University.

Cathy worked for the State of Missouri, Department of Corrections, Division of Probation and Parole for 26 years from 1975 to 2001. She worked directly with offenders, as a supervisor of officers and as a District Administrator. Her last position was as the District Administrator of the St. Charles County office and its Warren and Lincoln County satellite offices. She trained officers on a district, regional and statewide basis and served on numerous committees. She also was instrumental in developing the partnership between St. Charles County Circuit Court and Missouri Probation and Parole in establishing the St. Charles County Drug Court.

Cathy enjoyed travel, researching family history, music and photography. As an accomplished musician, she recorded a music album entitled “Legacy Cathy Durand” comprised of songs that she had written, performed, recorded and gave away. As an avid photographer, she also created a coffee table book “Journeys” of her most favorite travels.

She was a long time member of Assumption Catholic Church, the St. Peters Choral Society and the St. Charles County Historical Society. She was a member of the Caroline Close Stuart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Cathy was a unique individual who always was sensitive to others feelings and made other people feel comfortable. She made a difference in all the lives she touched and is considered to be one of the kindest, gentlest, most warm‑hearted caring persons they knew.

Cathy is survived by her longtime friend and partner of 46 years, Sue Zarvos, her sister Deborah Durand, her brother, James (Lynne) Durand, her sister, Michele (Duff) Hay, her brother, John (Kathleen) Durand along with 11 nephews and nieces and 18 grandnephews and grandnieces.
