Bobby Lawrence Smith, of O’Fallon, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the age of 88. Loving husband of 60 years to the late Velma Estelle Smith; beloved son of the late Lawrence E. and Myrtle Smith; devoted father of Debora (Ron) Long, Karen (Mike) Jaycox, and Kimberly (Darrell) Johnston; cherished grandfather of Robert (Brandy) Long, Michelle Cooper, Bryan Jaycox, Scott Long, Jaime Navarro, Brett (Stacie) Johnston, and Brook Johnston; treasured great-grandfather of Jaclyn, Brianna, Devlin, Brittany, Jayden, Alison, Lex, Liberty, Hunter, Marvel, Gunner, and Lynlee; dear brother of Dorothy (Red) Peel; and dear brother-in-law of Laverne Smith. Bobby was also preceded in death by his siblings, Pansy (the late Ira) McNees, Irma (the late Stanley) Wilson, Lillie (the late Calivin) Hughes, Janet (the late Junior) Parker, Regina (the late Keith) Yates, Don Smith, and Katie Smith.
Bobby proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a hard worker and retired from Schnucks after working in the warehouse for many years. As a dedicated man of faith, he was a member of Cornerstone Apostolic Church, which was a driving force in his life to serve God.
Bobby loved shopping and bargain hunting with his wife, although he gave most of his findings away to family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, and liked going fishing and hunting in years past. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, and he never missed a game. He was very active and looked forward to working out at Gold’s Gym, and he always made friends wherever he went.
Bobby will be remembered as an amazing husband, and a caring father, who was just a teddy bear at heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor, with a kindness towards everyone, and a true devotion to his family. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bobby’s honor to
