Betty Mae Leapley, 89, of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at her home.
At Betty’s request, a private family graveside service will be held Monday, August 21, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.
Betty was born March 10, 1928, in Sioux City, the daughter of John and Clara (Beck) Hoffman. Betty was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She attended Leeds High School in Sioux City. Betty married Don R. Leapley on June 27, 1948. They were married for 49 years before Don’s passing in 1998.
Betty was a homemaker who took great pride in maintaining her flowers and garden for many years in Sioux City. She was a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she participated in the Alter Guild, various committees and quilting. She was an avid bowler with her husband, Don, in many leagues. Betty loved being part of a large family and enjoyed the family picnics and holiday gatherings.
Betty moved to O’Fallon, Missouri, (St. Louis) in 2005 to be closer to one of her children. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Betty was a diehard Cardinals fan that never missed a game on television and was able to celebrate two World Series champions. Yadier Molina was her most favorite player.
Betty is survived by her children, daughter Vicky and her husband DeWayne Kinney of Lincoln, NE; son Brad and his wife Darlyne of Lake Saint Louis, MO; son Kurt and his wife Margaret of New Berlin, WI; brother, Kenny and his wife, Cherryll of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Don; her parents; brothers, Wayne, Don, Irvin, Chuck, Bob and Gene; and sisters, Lois, Esther, Lorraine, Ethel and Darlene.
