Bernard “Bernie” M. Grote

June 25, 1949 — February 24, 2020

Bernard “Bernie” M. Grote, of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020, at age 70.  He was born June 25, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri to Bernard and Dora (nee Meyerhoff) Grote.  He was a graduate of Riverview Gardens in 1967.

Bernie met Donna Frye in college, they fell in love, then married on November 7, 1970.  They went on to have five children Chrissy (Mike) Pagnotti, Amy (Duane) Youngman, Melissa Grote (Mike Bogle), Ellen (James) Riggle, and Daniel (Kelly) Grote. Bernie is also survived by his five grandchildren that he adored - Michael Pagnotti, AJ, Nolan, and Molly Riggle, and Allison Grote. He was a loving brother to and is survived by Pat (Paul) Hinrichs, Sue (Mark) Alvey, Steve (Brenda) Grote and Marilyn (Bob) Powers. He was an uncle to 16 nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Ben and Dora Grote and his sister Sandra Grote.

Bernie was employed by Southwestern Bell/AT&T for 40 years and was a proud member of the Local CWA Union.  Upon retirement he really put his time to good use, as everyone knew he didn’t like just sitting around.  When he wasn’t spending time with family, he was meticulously taking care of his lawn and garden.

Bernie was a man that proudly put his family first.  He was best friends with his wife for over 50 years.  He was involved in all of his children's activities, whether it be driving to play practice, going to Girl Scout meetings, or helping out at baseball practice. He was passionate about his children's schools and was involved heavily in PTO and school fundraisers. Nothing put a smile on his face faster than spending time with his grandchildren, and he loved all five of them with all of his heart. Bernie was also an avid St. Louis sports fan and a lover of everything Disney.  He had his trademarked moustache and wore it for many years.  He was also known amongst the family as a ruthless card shark!

Bernie will be loved and missed immensely, forever. Aahhhyes!
