Arlen Dale Allmon

January 18, 1932 — March 5, 2019

Arlen Dale Allmon of Lake Saint Louis, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of 35 years to Judy Allmon; devoted father of Pamela Allmon Hook, Dirk Allmon and wife Patrice, Cody Allmon and wife Jessie, and Carson Allmon; loving grandfather of Coleman Hook and wife Megan, Sarah Hook, and August Allmon; treasured great-grandfather of Ethan Hook and Hudson Hook; dear brother of Jo Ann Newman and Nancy Hubbard; and adored uncle, cousin, relative, and friend to many. Arlen was preceded in death by his parents Amos Roscoe and Verna Opal Allmon; daughter Julie Ann; sisters Marvelle Miller, Dona Ruth, Cleora Gladys, and brother Glenn Eugene Allmon.

Not many people live to leave a legacy. Arlen Allmon is one of the fortunate few. After graduating Ironton High School in 1950, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a Machinist’s Mate from 1950 to 1954. He then returned home to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1958.

He loved the outdoors and always told folks how lucky he was to have a vocation in Forestry that was more of an avocation. He was at home in the woods, taking in its splendor any time of the year, and took pride in caring for the natural world through his 31-year career with the Missouri Department of Conservation. He was a key contributor to the development and plotting of the Ozark Trail through Missouri. He was responsible for planting over 10 million trees, suppressing over 400 natural cover wildfires, and developing management plans for state lands throughout Missouri.

He worked with the MDC during its most dynamic period of growth and was part of important campaigns throughout all divisions. These included assisting with efforts to restore populations of deer, Canada geese, and wild turkey; helping crusade for and win the ‘Design for Conservation;’ and working with Conservation agents on undercover enforcement operations. He loved it all.

Arlen was also a member of the Dardenne Presbyterian Church of Dardenne Prairie. As well as loving the outdoors and spending much of his time hiking and traveling, he enjoyed dabbling in photography and learning the history of the Western U.S. Arlen dearly loved his family and he will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him in return.

Memorials may be made in Arlen's name to The Gary Sinise Foundation, National Park Foundation, or Honor Flight of Columbia.
