Abbie D. White

February 3, 1930 — December 18, 2016

White, Abbie D. (nee: Daniels), of Creve Coeur, MO, died on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at the age of 86. Beloved daughter of the late Ernest and Emma Daniels; devoted mother of Anna Maria (Philip) Lehrke and Amy S. White; loving aunt and friend to many. Preceded in death by her three sisters, Veora "Ossie" McKeon, Maxene Bernardini, and Pearl Brewer, and brother, Ernest Daniels.
During her younger years, Abbie sailed the seven seas, visited the Bricktops of Rome and the Eiffel Tower, and lived abroad in Tripoli and Nigeria. Abbie was a talented artist, making and selling beautifully designed necklaces which she sold exclusively at Miss Jackson’s in Tulsa and Balliets in Oklahoma City. She was also an avid collector of fine antique evening bags.

Abbie worked for St. John Medical Center in Tulsa for 25 years before retiring in 1995. She kicked off her encore chapter by moving to San Antonio, where she became a hospice volunteer and avid Spurs fan, continuing her lifelong love of following a wide variety of sports.

Abbie moved to St. Louis on December 30th of 2010, and enjoyed her active life and beloved community at the Covenant Place, along with volunteering for Pathways Community Hospice.  Abbie was both a hoot and an inspiration, participating in Yoga, Tai Chi, Charlie’s Fun and Fitness, the Covenant Chai Notes Bell Choir,  the Covenant Chorale, Mussar study group, the “Friday Night Lobby Group” and Thursday night cards group with her closest girlfriends.

Abbie was admired for her kindness, joyful love of others and lifelong learning. She faithfully wrote in a gratitude journal each day, that she was thankful for another day, her beating heart, her loving friends and family, along with other daily blessings like the Pioneer Woman, Blink eye gel drops, and the helpful staff at her favorite Walgreens and Thrift Shops.

Abbie had a rich spiritual life, which included 45 years of sobriety and recovery in Alcoholics Anonymous, never turning down a chance to make a twelve-step call to help someone in need. She faithfully attended Friday night Shabbat Services at the Covenant Place and was a member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa.

Her favorite sayings included the Serenity Prayer, remembering that God is doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves, and more recently the five simple rules for happiness: 1. Free your heart from hatred. 2. Free your mind from worries. 3. Live simply. 4. Give more. 5. Expect less.

Thankful appreciation to Dr. Keya Hindia, Dr. Jeff Ciaramita, trusted confidant, driver and companion Sheria Sharp and to the caring staff of Mercy Hospice, for their loving dedication and support.

Memorial contributions preferred to the Covenant Place Foundation, 8 Millstone Campus Drive, Suite 2000, St. Louis, MO 63146.

Abbie was deeply loved and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
