Sieglinde Matthew passed away June 8, 2016 at the age of 81. Born and raised in Germany, Linde met her future husband, Bob, an American soldier stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany. Bob and Linde were married there and started their family. They were fortunate to have been stationed in both the United States and Germany until finally settling in Saint Peters, MO.
Linde loved knitting and crocheting. Family members were warmed by her fabulously knitted sweaters and throws. Her filet crocheting is legendary. Linde was an avid music lover whose tastes spanned from opera to blues to rock. She loved holding court around the kitchen table where she entertained family with her twists on the English language. Linde's love and warmth will live on whenever we recall what she would say when she got a good parking spot, “Ve lucky today.”
Linde was predeceased by her parents Helene and Joseph Schwind and brother, Manfred Schwind. Linde is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bobby, children, Janet (Jim) Desloge of Saint Charles, MO, Mike (Donni) Matthew of Denver, CO, granddaughters, Devon (Rob Thomas) Jones of Denver, CO, Katrina (James) Lindmeier of Saint Peters, MO, sisters, Ella (Horst) Schiffner of Berlin, Germany, Roswitha (Konrad) Zöller of Haibach, Germany, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Donations may be made in Linde's memory to the National Forest Foundation at nationalforests.org.
A memorial will follow at a venue to be determined.
